This will be a new facility located at the
City-owned Nobel Athletic Park. Design began in fiscal year 2002, and
the project cost is anticipated to be funded by available facilities
benefit assessment / developer impact fees in the community.
The Library will be located on a knoll overlooking the park, the canyon
and the neighborhood. Access will be provided to the Library entry from
a parking lot to the north as well as convenient pedestrian access from
the neighborhood, the park and a transit stop.
The layout of the building will be
organized around a main circulation route through the Library that
separates the adult/young adult section from the Children’s Library;
both areas are well supervised from both the Circulation Desk and the
Reference area as well as from the staff work room. The computer lab and
the seminar rooms are also located with strong visual connections to the
supervised areas. There is a community meeting room that is available
for use even after the Library is closed and restroom facilities that
serve both the Library and the meeting room.
Clerestory roof forms provide diffused
day lighting well into the interior of the library; they also create the
architectural forms for the building that respond in general to the park
setting, the adjacent recreation building and the surrounding
residential neighborhood. Exterior colors and materials are chosen for
their appropriateness to the park environment with earth-tone colors
prevailing. The Library has been designed to allow for future expansion
when funding becomes available.
