Originally built in 1909, the
Coronado Public Library meets the informational, recreational, and
cultural needs of the island community of Coronado, home to over 29,000
residents. The mission of the library is to actively promote reading,
life-long learning, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Wings were added to the original structure
in the 1930s and again in the 1950s. Then in 1973, an expansion project
tore down the old wings, retained the original structure and added a
children's library, community meeting room, central patios and expanded
central structure.
This project involved the
renovation of the existing 21,000 square foot library building and the
addition of approximately 18,000 square feet of space. The historic Spreckels Room and the community Winn Room
were also renovated. |
