This
project involved new construction of a two-story, 45,243 square foot
concrete structure to house the Port District's maintenance shops
and administrative offices. Also included in the contract is a wash bay,
fueling station, and shop equipment.
The Port of San Diego's General Services
department had been at its previous location on Harbor Drive for almost 40
years. The new facility serves 166
employees, including gardeners, electricians, equipment operators,
plumbers, painters, mechanics, and custodians.
As part of the project, local artist Kim
Emerson designed these five mosaic panels depicting trades represented by
the General Services employees:
