The Peñasquitos Pump Station
was designed to blend with its
natural surroundings. The retaining walls,
with a combined length
of more than 700 feet, are decorated with colorful,
stylized petroglyphs designed by artist Phillip Matzigkeit under the
direction of the City of San Diego's Commission for Arts and Culture. The
walls were inspired by local Native American rock paintings.
