The Diversion Structure is part of the San Diego County Water Authority’s
Second Aqueduct and serves as a constant head reservoir supplying
untreated water to Pipeline 5 in the Second Aqueduct and serving member
agencies in central and south county service areas.
The Diversion Structure is a 22 million-gallon capacity, reinforced
concrete tank, approximately 30 feet in height and all but the upper three
to five feet buried, with the
concrete roof exposed. The landscaping plan is designed to reduce
the visual impacts of any exposed areas. Construction of the structure
required an eight-day shutdown of Pipelines 3 and 5 and an additional
eight-day shutdown of Pipeline 3 to
“tie-in”
these pipelines to the Diversion Structure—both shutdowns were
successfully accomplished with no impact on water supply
to the county. |
